Elsie Oman

We lost the most precious gift our family was given, our Mom, on April 2, 2011. She started her life, June 7, 1927 with six other siblings born to John and Mary Manning in Wallace, Idaho. After her father passed away her mother moved the family to Spokane where Elsie grew up and met the love of her life, Ralph. They married in 1950 and raised seven children of their own: Dana, Lance, Doreen, Laurie, Clint, July and Eric. Her life centered around the family in the home that Ralph and his father built. Her beauty and grace made it easy for anyone who met her to love her as much as her children did. Sadly, she lost her husband of 59 years in 2009. She was a strong woman, as we all know. We will miss our Mother, but know she is dancing in the arms of her beloved Ralph. In addition to her seven children, she has one sister she leaves behind, Ruth Duncan; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with The Reverend Thomas Connolly conducting. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane WA 99210-2215. Please visit Elsie's online tribute and leave a condolence at, Arrangements by

Josephine Mary Dylke

A ray of sunshine left our world and peacefully slipped away on March 28th. Josephine Mary (Di'Pasquale) Dylke was born in 1916 and was two months short of her 95th birthday., What an interesting life she led. While a young women, she, with a cousin, set off from New York to Oregon by train. With only a few dollars in their pockets and a desire for adventure, they arrived in Portland, Oregon. Josephine looked up her cousin Sammy, working in St. Paul, Oregon and soon had a job with a family in St. Paul. She spoke very fondly of the Smith family all the days of her life., When World War II began, Josephine found herself working at the Kaiser Shipyards painting aircraft carriers. To this day we have her paint-spattered hard hat. She could tell you from which part of the ship each color spatter on her hard hat came. The red was from the electrical room, for instance. Many ladies worked on those ships while the men fought overseas., Born in very hard times, Josephine knew the importance of work. She had to quit school early to earn monies to help her mama and papa feed the family. This strong work ethic never left her. She would tell you to take a job, any job, and if you are good, you will get promoted. With this in mind, she went to work for the Vancouver Veterans Administration Hospital in 1950. She started by cleaning bathrooms and rose to be a food service supervisor. She worked there 26 years., Her laughter and her joy of life led her to many favorite pastimes. She loved to dance and often attended ballroom dances with her girlfriends. That was a way to meet young gentlemen, too. This is how she met her husband, Don, a very good dancer. She loved going to the movies with her girlfriends and out to lunch for chats and friendship. Then, there are the cousins, her many cousins. Josephine had no children, so each of her cousins children became very dear to her. These second cousins were her surrogate kids and she loved them., How Josephine loved to travel. Her most fond travel memory was of her trip to Rome. She and her sister took their papa to see his homeland. Her eyes sparkled when she recalled this trip. Vacation by ship was another favorite way to see the world, and, of course, there was always dancing on board., She also enjoyed the Oregon coast and, once a year for more than 20 years, she and a couple of cousins spent a week at Lincoln City. They poked around the antique shops, enjoyed good dining and took walks on the beach. They always planned in advance to have the Captain's Quarters of a favorite hotel., Throughout her life she gathered friends. In the later years she made new friends at her assisted-living home. Both residents and caregivers became her friends and she loved them all. When she was ill, the visitors would arrive in droves. The hospital staff stopped referring to us by name. Friends and family alike were simply referred to as "the cousins.", There are so many cousins, one step -child, grandchildren, nephews and a niece, girlfriends and simply people who loved her. We are too numerous to mention. What a wonderful thing to be known for: to have too many friends and family to mention. Each of us was captivated by that big heart and warm smile that lit up the room., May God bless and keep you Josephine; we will see you again; we love you and miss you., A graveside service will be held on April 5th, 2011 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vancouver, Washington., Please sign Josephine's guest book at:

MARIE INGALLS CLARK

Marie was born August 27, 1919, at home near Genoa, Nebraska to John and Nellie (McMeekin) Ingalls. She was the ninth of eleven children. As an honor student, Marie graduated from Shelby High School in 1937 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska in 1942. While at the University of Nebraska, she met Wilford H. (Bill) Clark. Bill and Marie were married August 8, 1942 in Grand Island, Nebraska. After living a number of places for short periods (Bill in the Army Air Corp), Bill and Marie settled in Richland, WA in 1947., Mom's home economic background translated to a love of cooking, gardening, raising kids (hers and some of the neighbors' at times) and yes, even cleaning. She also loved fishing, a little gambling, reading, dancing and any kind of pet we brought home to her. She was active in 4-H both as a member during her childhood and leader later in life patiently teaching many to cook and sew., Mom approached life with her own independent style, humor, and spirit. A combination of her Irish heritage, being one of eleven children living on a family farm during the Great Depression, working her way through college, and moving to a dusty, windy Eastern Washington community following World War II lent a hand in forming these qualities. She will be fondly remembered for her style and spirit., Marie is survived by her four children, Jake Clark (Pam) of West Richland, WA, Jo Clark Donahoo (Ken) of Yakima, WA, Janet Clark Gunter (Bob) of Richland, WA and Janell Clark Stover (Phil) of Fountain Hills, AZ., four grandchildren, Dana Clark, Michelle Clark Acquavella, and Aaron and Elliott Stover, and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Libby Acquavella, and a host of pet 'grandchildren.' Marie is greatly missed by all of us., Marie was preceded in death by her husband Wilford H. Clark in 1983, brothers Glen, Jack, Homer, Harold and Bob Ingalls and sisters Blanche Brigham, Grace Antonelli, Dorothea Clifton, Helen Schlesinger and Virginia Riblett., The family wishes to extend their heart-felt gratitude to the staff at Canyon Lakes Restorative and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate and attentive care., Graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland, WA, Thursday, April 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. The family would like to invite you to a reception following the graveside service at Memories at Sunset Event Center.

PATRICIA ANN FLODIN

Patricia (Pat) (Trisha) Ann Flodin was born on September 27, 1929 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Henry and Ida Deddens. She was number five in the line up of six beautiful girls who were close in age and full of spirit. In her early years, she developed an amazing faith in God and her relationship with Jesus Christ continued to strengthen over the years. Her love for God was evident as she faithfully faced each day and grateful for each breath she was given., Mom graduated from Nazarene College with a BS degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician and later met her future husband, Allan Thomas Flodin on a blind date. They were married on August 2, 1952. That same day dad received orders to report to active duty for the Korean War. While dad was in Korea, mom moved to Washington State where she lived with her inlaws and was one of the first Lab Tech's at Prosser Hospital. After dad returned home, mom helped start the family business, Flodin Incorporated. She was a 'stay at home' mom to which she did to the fullest. She loved her children more than life as she developed wonderful relationships with each of them. As each one of them married, she also treated their families with an insurmountable love and support. She was also called 'mom' by many of her children's friends as she and dad opened their home and fed many. No one was a stranger and all were welcomed at the dinner table. Mom was the 'best cook ever,' made dozens of Christmas cookies each year and created the most delicious clam chowder that was served every Christmas Eve. She hosted many extended family holiday meals and was a 'lady of cards' for she never missed any relative or friends birthday or anniversary., Mom helped many people. She never wanted to draw attention to herself and did many things to help others privately. She gave generously and would do anything for anyone. She had the gift of serving, was hospitable, hard working, never sat down and did so with an infectious smile, bright blue eyes and genuine warmth. She was a pillar of stability and a true lady of grace. Mom had an amazing determination and spirit that far surpassed the serious health issues she encountered throughout her life. She was a woman of strength and inner beauty, a strong encourager, and even in her final days she continued to pray for others and encouraged loved ones to be strong in the Lord and understand that what she was going through was nothing compared to what Christ has done for her., Mom loved and cherished time spent with family, as she planned and enjoyed many family gatherings. She gave countless hours as a Red Cross Volunteer working at the many Red Cross Blood Drawings. In her later years, she worked for the Sunnyside School District in which she received the 'Golden Apple Award' as a cook and it meant a lot to her to make sure each child was served and fed a warm meal. She valued each child that came through her line, often times purchasing some type of clothing if the need arose. She was active in her yard and took pride in the many dozen varieties of roses in her rose garden., Mom is preceded in death by her husband Al, son Thomas (Tommy), parents Henry and Ida, and sisters Dorothy (Dottie)Fultz, Janet Deddens, and Lois (Peenie) Deddens. She is survived by her four children and their families who loved her beyond measure, Denny and husband Lee Hursh (Nicki Koep and Josylin Hursh), Mark and wife Christine Flodin (Cheri Newhouse, Lalayna and husband Randy Morgan, Luke and Nicole Flodin), John and wife Sylvia Flodin (Rachel and husband Jason Legan, Isaac and wife Emily Flodin and Andy Flodin), and Jeri and husband Nick Paulakis (Hannah and Rebekah Paulakis). She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Martha (Mottie) Schoenbachler, Joan (Jody) Joyner of Louisville, Kentucky and brother-in-laws George Fultz, John Flodin and Bill (Paula) Flodin of Moses Lake, WA.; many special nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who will greatly miss her. To all of you (too many to mention by name) thank you for your friendships with mom., She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Lower Valley Christian Fellowship.
